The Big Texan Steak Ranch

The SOITC gang has been going out to eat at a different restaurant each night.  Last night it was Mexican and I was under the weather with an upset stomach so we stayed home.  Today though I felt fine as you can tell by all the sightseeing we did today.  Tonight we went to The Big Texan Steak Ranch for dinner.  The place is pretty easy to find and is enormous as is everything else about the place - Big Steer in front, Big Bears inside, Big tables, Big rooms and BIG food.

This place is famous for its 72 oz steak deal.  If you can eat a "whole cow within an hour" then the meal is free.  None of our group was game enough to try it though.  Darn it!

I had to take another picture to get the rest of the building!  It is BIG too!

This is a sample of the steak!

This is a sample of the 72 ounce (4.5 pounds) steak, nicknamed "The Texas King." The steak is free to anyone who, in one hour or less, can eat the entire meal, consisting of the steak itself, plus bread roll with butter, baked potato, ranch beans, shrimp cocktail, and salad; otherwise, the meal costs $72.00. Those who have successfully consumed the Texas King meal have their names recorded and posted at the restaurant. According to Wikipedia "As of March 15, 2011, over 8,800 people out of about 50,000 have accomplished this feat."

Those who take on the Texas King challenge are required to pay for the meal in advance, and if they are successful, their money is refunded. The steak is cooked to the participant's preference, and the challenge takes place at a table for one on a raised platform in the middle of the main dining room.

Lots of critters line the balconies

Lee decided to take my picture right at the moment I had a huge chunk of steak in my mouth - thus the face!

Entertainment at the Tables - They were pretty good!
The following are pictures of our SOITC group.

We all seemed to have a great time and the food was really very good and there was plenty of it!
