Rio Grand Norte National Monument

Today we headed out to the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. We drove past a lot of beautiful landscapes, mountain ranges, wide open plains and steep canyons. We also saw a ton of  Long Horn Sheep today.

We passed rugged wide open plains which were at an average elevation of 7000 feet. There are steep canyons and deep gorges. The highest mountain in the Monument is Ute Moutain is 10,093 feet. This area also is important for the animals in this area as it provides a corridor where wildlife can move between two mountain ranges.

The cloud looking stuff at the left of this picture is like a whirling dust bunny. It was moving along at quite a clip.

Wild River Visitor Center at the Rio Grand Norte National Monument, however, it was closed today (Sunday)

Then we came across this huge group of Long Horn Sheep  between Red River and Q   on the way back home.
