Audobon National Wildlife Refuge

Today we headed over to the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge near Coleharbor, North Dakota. We opted to take the South Short Auto Tour Route. It is an eight mile route that begins near the Visitor Center and winds along the scenic south shoreline of Lake Audubon.

The wind was blowing so hard and it was full of sand. I had to keep my window down in order to get pictures and the car was just full of sand as was our hair and clothing. We did get some really nice pictures of some birds though. It did take quite a bit of cleaning up to get the car looking normal again. Yuck!

We are finally toward the end of the eight-mile drive. That is the Visitor Center. We still have some driving and sand showers to go yet!

As we got away from the water, we ended up seeing some birds that like the grassy fields.

Gadwall and what we think is a turtle???

This place would have been heavenly on a nice peaceful day but with the wind and sand blowing everywhere, it wasn't so great. However, even with the sand, a lot of birds were out!
