Black River Trail

Today we set out to do some birding. We decided we would walk the Black River Trail but we got our directions mixed up or something. We drove in circles until we found what we thought was the trail we wanted to hike. It ended up that it wasn't the right location. We were intending to start at Day's Dam and go from there. Instead we walked the south half of the Steel Mill trail, a trail that runs behind a steel mill. So there wasn't much serenity along the trail. There is a lot of noise generated by the mill and all the trucks coming and going. Along part of the trail across from the steel mill is what looks like a quarry with more mechanized equipment adding to the noise pollution. Eventually, we got past the mill and the trail was more quiet (and shaded).

This bridge is actually two bridges, one higher than the other.  One of them is no longer used.

We finally came to Day's Dam where we had intended to start our hike. We expected to find a dam there, but there was only the remains of an old dam.

We walked close to three miles down the trail to the dam and back to the truck. Needless to say, we were exhausted and glad to sit in the truck for the ride home.
