Day 4: Stop 5: French Camp Academy (MP 180.7)

At Miles Post 180.7 on the Trace there is a town named French Camp, named for Frenchman, Louis LeFleur, who opened an Inn here in 1812. Today it is the home of the French Camp Academy. It is a Christian Boarding School as well as a collection of businesses run by the academy and its students. We ate lunch here and roamed a few of the buildings which are now being renovated in the area we were in. We also went up to see their Rainwater Observatory & Planetarium. Everywhere kids were working, chatting and looking like they enjoyed life. They all come from troubled homes or no homes and find a life and prospects while they attend. It is kind of an awesome place.

I, Mary, had this wonderful salad in the cafe and brought back some of the dressing that I plan to use at one of the potlucks at the park. I have a recipe!
