High Point, New Jersey

We woke up to another gorgeous day!  The scenery was spectacular.  You just can't beat autumn foliage to put you in a good mood!

Campground where we are staying.

We decided just to drive the area today and see what we could see.  Our first stop ended up to be High Point State Park in Sussex, New Jersey.

                                 High Point Monument

The monument was built through the generosity of the Kusers family, in honor of all war veterans. Construction was started in 1928 and completed in 1930. Standing at the bottom of the 220-foot structure, we had a breathtaking view of the ridges of the Pocono Mountains toward the west, the Catskill Mountains to the north and the Wallkill River Valley in the southeast.

                                        Lake Marcia

Lake Marcia is a spring-fed 20-acre natural lake,  There is a beach which has lifeguards during the swimming season and a bathhouse with a food concession stand.

We parked in the parking lot and then walked up to the monument.

After we left High Point, we decided to find a place to eat.  One of the workers at the campground suggested that we try The Elias Cole Restaurant.  So, Lee drove back that way.

The Elias Cole Restaurant

The restaurant has been in the family since 1978.

The Restaurant had a huge selection of food but we both decided to try something a bit different.  We both had a Turkey and dressing sandwich with cranberry sauce.  It was pretty darn good and REALLY filling.

Then the waitress talked us into trying their pumpkin pie.  It was really good too and the only piece of pumpkin pie we had all season!

After lunch we just headed out and just took scenery pictures.

What a gorgeous day!
