The Miller Nature Preserve

We went to church this morning at St. Peter's UCC at Amherst.  Then we had lunch at Cracker Barrel and picked up a new audio book to listen to while driving.

Then we decided to head over to Avon and see what the Miller Nature Preserve was all about.  It was more than what we imagined as it was much more than just a nature preserve.

The Visitor Center and Gift Shop have a wonderful little patio with hanging plants and tables.  We found that we could have had lunch here as they have a kitchen which they use for cooking classes and a dining area where they serve a brunch on Sundays.  The brunch looked pretty good!  There was no one sitting outside for brunch because it was quite warm!

The preserve is on 78 acres of wooded land that was donated by an Avon resident, Buddy Miller, in memory of his late wife, Alice Fowles.

Next to the Visitor Center is a 5000 square foot conservatory (the first in Lorain County).  We wandered through it taking pictures of the rooms and plants.

A short distance from the conservatory is the new butterfly house which is so new that it doesn't have butterflies in it yet.  There were signs about that talked about volunteering to join a group to capture Ohio butterflies for the house!

I loved the hanging baskets that were everywhere!

The following are pictures inside the conservatory:

This was the newest seasonal display honoring our nation and those who have fought to protect it.

They have quite an orchid collection

These pictures are from the Bonsai Room in the Conservatory:

On the way home, we drove by St. John's UCC Church in South Amherst.  It is a small church with a really small congregation.  We had to find the church because they didn't have a website and so we couldn't find out what time their services are.  Now we know that they start at 9:30 AM.

After that we located Schoepfle Gardens in Birmingham.  We want to visit some other day but we didn't know exactly where they were.  Now we'll be able to find them easier.

After that we drove to the Sandusky Walmart for groceries.  We did a bit of driving today!
