Mackinac Island Downtown District

After we deboarded the ferry we wandered around the downtown area for awhile.

Main Street

This is the marker for Woodfill Park.  It was named after William Stewart Woodfill.  He has been the owner and preserver of the Grand Hotel longer than anyone else.  He also was the premier mover in getting the Mackinac Bridge built.  He was also the Chairman of the Mackinac Island State Park Commission and he created the program that restored Fort Mackinac and rebuilt Fort Michili Mackinac.  You could say he was a mover and a shaker for Mackinac Island.
The lilacs are in bloom all over the island!
I was just soooo thrilled because the lilacs were blooming all over the island.  The lilac aroma was everywhere and the flowers were just gorgeous.  It really added to the ambiance!

Round Island Lighthouse
The Round Island Lighthouse was built in 1895 and deactivated from 1947 to 1996 when it was relit after some restoration efforts.  The building was fully restored for the filming of "Somewhere in Time" in 1978.  Lee took this picture from the boardwalk.

Song Sparrow
We saw this Song Sparrow as we were sitting at a little outdoor restaurant having iced tea and waiting for the last ferry of the day to take us back to St. Ignace.
