Dingman's Falls & Silver Thread Falls

Our next stop on the falls trail was Dingmans Ferry Creek Trail.  It is off Route 209 (just south of the light at 739/209 at Johnny Bee Road).  We  walked the trail that started out as a once road that has been closed and then becomes a path that runs three miles up Dingmans Creek and past Silverthread and Dingmans Falls.

Start of a beautiful hike

Dingman's Creek

The Visitor Center, however, it wasn't open

Over the bridge and on to Silver Thread Falls

Silver Thread Falls
The boardwalk trail passes by a thin horsetail cascade called Silverthread Falls.   Silverthread has sawed its way through a narrow fissure  to reveal a cross section of the lower Pocono Plateau, with its many twisted and folded rock layers. Carrying much less water than Dingmans, Silverthread can be a trickle most of the year so we were lucky they were flowing well.

Farther on the Path toward Dingman's Falls

We've arrived at Dingman's Falls

It was a beautiful hike and both waterfalls were well worth the hike. Dingmans Falls is the second highest falls in the state with a plunge of 130 feet down a sandstone face.
