Mohican State Park

Today we are heading for the Mohican Pow Wow near Loudenville, Ohio but we decided to make our first stop the Mohican State Park which was right on the way.  I had read about the Clear Fork Gorge  so we drove there first.  The Gorge is probably as wide and as deep as they say but it is sure hard to photograph because really all you see is trees and there doesn't seem to be a bottom to the gorge!

 Pileated Woodpecker

We were really glad we came over to the park when we heard a Pileated Woodpecker.  We just knew it had to be one because he was soooo loud.  So we wandered around starring up at trees until we found him.  Of course, when he saw us, he took off.  We kept following the sound of him beating on the trees and Lee finally was able to get a couple of pictures of him.  The pileated woodpecker is really skiddish so you really have to want a picture in order to get it.  These aren't the best but it is what he was able to get.  It was funny because as he was flying away from us, Lee decided he looked like a small goose.  These guys are pretty big!

Here is some of his handiwork!

The Mohican Covered Bridge

While we were at the covered bridge, it started to rain so we took shelter in the truck and ate our picnic lunch while we waited for it to clear up.
