McKinely National Monument

Our next stop today was the McKinely National Monument and his  Presidential Library and Museum in Canton, Ohio.   It is said that McKinely often visited this spot and thought it would make a great place for a veterans' memorial.   There is a beautiful view of the city of Canton from the dome.

The McKinely Monument has 108 steps to the dome, however, you can park at the back of the Memorial and avoid all the steps.  There is also a handicapped elevator in the back.  It is a breathtaking view from about anywhere you stand.  The interior dome measures 50 feet in diameter and is 77 feet from the floor to the highest point. At the top of the dome is a red, white and blue skylight. The skylight has 45 stars in its design representing the 45 states in the Union at the time of President McKinley’s death.
