First United Methodist Church, Elyria, Ohio

We decided that we would go to the Methodist church in Elyria today. We wanted to see the inside of the church because it looked like it would be fabulous inside. It was! Today was a good day to do it because the congregational church we've been attending wasn't having an indoor service today. They were joining with a bunch of local churches for a joint Independence Day Service at a park. That all sounds good until you factor in that it is in the 90's!  So, today we headed for Elyria. There service started at 10:50 AM.

Stained Glass Above The Front Entry to Sanctuary

There was a couple who did the special music today. The first song they sang was "Love In Any Language". That brought back memories. Danica sang that in the children's choir at home when she was a youngster. The second song they sang was "Let There Be Peace On Earth", a song that I played on the piano all the time when I was a teenager. Both were done beautifully and brought back lovely memories.

The minister, Pastor Roger Talbott, gave a sermon based on the gospel reading of Mark 5:21-43 where Jesus raises a dead young girl and cures a sick woman. He called it Jesus The Christ Care! He said it wasn't Obamacare. He said the way he sees things we have two sides of a coin on health insurance. One side sees it as personal and wants to give health care to those who need it and the other side wants to save the country from bankruptcy. I think that is probably what the best of the two sides feel. But what he said that followed touched me. He said that Jesus The Christ Care is personal and it relies on the person's faith in Him.

I feel
that way about our country. We have enough money to spend millions on campaigns, wars, lobbyists, space programs and intolerance campaigns. Yet we don't have enough money to make sure that our citizens have health care. At least we haven't in the past. I can't believe that Jesus will continue to bless a country that thinks so little of its people. I hope that the health insurance for everyone stands in the next election because I believe that is what Jesus would want. I can't see Him telling people that they are on their own and I think if He lived today, he'd be fighting for Obamacare and telling us to have faith in Him, do our best to help others and everything will work itself out. We just need to have some faith! Maybe we won't have a war for awhile, or maybe we'll do something really radical like stopping the outflow of billions trying to throw people in jail for marijuana and start putting a tax on it instead. That alone would probably pay for health care. Ahh well, I digress.
