Gila Catwalk 2022

Today we set out or the Gila Catwalk. It was one of the places we wanted to revisit. The last time we were here was on November 18, 2006, the first year we started full-timing. It was the first time we ever stayed any place for a month. We stayed at 81 Palms and enjoyed our time so we came back and are staying there again this time. Since we were here a month last time we did a ton of exploring in this area.

Since the last time we visited the Catwalk, there has been a flood and a wild fire in this area. Thus, the catwalk we knew is mostly gone now. It has been replaced by the steel catwalks that are mounted to the side of the canyon. The trail is not nearly as difficult and all of the catwalk is on one side of the canyon. It has had a major renovation for the better. I was wondering if I would be able to manage it this trip (15 1/2 years later and at age almost 75). Luckily, it was much easier this trip.

A few warnings!

Heading to the catwalk

This area has been smoothed up a lot and the block added on the side

Nice bridges to cross now

This is a picture of the nice catwalks they have now. I'll post a picture of what we had before at the end.

This piece takes you over to the area where we hiked previously and you can see a major difference. We didn't go the old way today! This piece looks much the same as it did when we hiked it.

A bird's nest of some sort.
