Freeze Damage From The Cold Snap

We stayed in the Rio Grande Valley instead of traveling during Covid 19 so that means we stayed at our winter home at Southern Comfort RV Resort in Weslaco, Texas instead of traveling. It was bad enough suffering through a lack of companionship with others since March of 2020 when  the lock downs started. Then we have the BIG FREEZE in Texas. We were out of electricity for four days and the temperature in the house got down into the 40's.

It is really interesting living without electricity in an all electric home for that long. We spent most of our time driving around in the car where we could be warm and stopped at fast food for meals that we could eat in the car.

Now after we are finally able to get out and about a bit, this part of Texas had its coldest weather for years for almost a full week. The citrus crop here in the Valley is ruined and not just the oranges, etc. that were on the trees. It killed full orchards. Our park lost a lot of trees, the palm trees suffered big time and some may have been lost. We are still waiting to see. We lost all the plantings in our front yard and a few things in the back yard. We did bring in all the plants that we had in pots all over and we are so thankful we did because they made it.

Here are a few pictures that I took today of foliage around Southern Comfort.

The old plantings have been removed in many places.

Several trees and bushes had to be removed.

All the beautiful pine trees had to be removed.
