SNAKE ALLEY

No sight-seeing trip to Burlington would be complete without a visit to Snake Alley, one of the curviest streets in the USA and certainly the curviest in Iowa. With five reverse curves in one block down a steep hill, it's a challenge for any driver!

I had to borrow this picture from the internet just so you could get the idea of how winding/crooked this is.

Linda told us she'd been down it before so she would take us down the drive.

We made it around the first turn.

And then we came across thus truck parked in the street. The driver was no where around and we had no idea how to get around him. Just the thought of backing back up the hill was too much.
Tommy went out knocking on every door he could find to see if someone could move it. The only response he got was that we could probably make it around it. So we sat for awhile waiting for the guy to come back. That didn't work.

So Linda maneuvered and maneuvered again and again until she finally got us out of there. I probably would have called the police to go find the guy!

AND SHE MADE IT!

The Kids, of course, thought that this was mighty cool!

So, we can say we had our first adventure on Day 2 of our trip!

Here is a link to information about Snake Alley and why it was built in the first place:
