South Padre Island Kite Festival

We picked the wrong day to come to the Kite Festival this year. We went on Friday and although the air temperature was supposed to be in the 60's the wind was coming in from the north and it was bloody cold. BRRRRR! We all though we brought enough clothes to keep warm, I had a sweatshirt and three jackets piled one on top of the other and I was still freezing. We watched about five fliers fly their kites and then it started to rain so we headed back to the truck to find some lunch.

This is normally parking!

This is the Parking Lot!

We went to Blackbeards for lunch when it started to rain. We met up with Marlene and Darryl Duke from Southern Comfort and had lunch with them.

After lunch it stopped raining and the winds died down a bit so we went back to the Kite Festival. We watched the last hour of kite flying including the Mass Flying Finale.

Of course, I, Mary, paid dearly for sticking it out as I am now home with the flu and with a terrible case of laryngitis.

Saturday they had great weather but I was in bed all day! RATS! We normally just love the Kite Festival!
