Custer State Park and Wildlife

We had some business to attend to in Rapid City today but after we finished with all that, we decided to head over to Custer State Park. We've never been there in May before so we thought we'd check it out.

You go through this tunnel going into the town of Keystone

Before we got to the park we stopped in Hill City for some lunch. This nice looking piece of art was across the street from the cafe.

Heading into Custer State Park.

The last time we were here was in June of 2016 and there were very few dead pine trees in the park then. Now the place has been devastated by the Mountain Pine Beetle.

The animals in the park are a lot more mellow in May. They just go on doing whatever they were doing. The only animals that objected to our presence today were deer.

The bison are shedding their winter coats.

They burned out a lot of this hill. Hopefully, the trees will come back. Otherwise, the Black Hills may have to be renamed.

The Prairie Dogs were loving the sunshine today!

Another hill that was burnt to the ground.

 Another Pronghorn

The burros didn't bother to greet us on the road!

We got a lot of great pictures of the Pronghorn Antelope in the park today. They didn't seem to mind if we parked a few feet from them and took their pictures.

Lots of Pronghorns Around Today
