Mariachi "Sol de Oro" & Grupo Folklorico "Sol Azteca"

We went to church this morning in Harlingen and then headed over to La Joya, Texas to see the Juarez-Lincoln High School Folklorico & Mariachi Spring Concert. We missed the Winter Concert this season and have never attended the Spring Concert before. I called ahead to see if we would have problems getting tickets at the door. In the winter the Winter Texans have them bought out in nothing flat! We weren't sure if the Spring program would be as good but we were pleasantly surprised to find out that it is just as wonderful and there isn't such a crowd to deal with.

We were there an hour early but after we purchased our tickets a group of youngsters started to perform in the Entry Hall so we listened to them until the doors opened. They were quite talented also.

Both the Mariachi and Folklorico Dancers did a wonderful job and the costumes were fantastic, as usual.

The Grupo Folklorico Sol Azteca comes from Juarez Lincon High School. They are part of the JLHS Dance Department which cultivates self-directed students and artists. The pride of their department is that the students are the forefront of all of their projects and events. The majority of the choregraphy work and repertory was designed by the students.

The Mariachi Sol de Oro competes in numerous Mariachi contest. This year they received superior ratings and advanced to state level competitions.

The harpist in the center did an absolutely beautiful solo performance,

In the second half of the performance, they did some modern dances which were beautiful!

The final performance ended with colorful streamers coming down all over the stage.

At the end of the performance all of the participants came on stage.

It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and we will definitely come to another Spring performance,
