Vermilion Lighthouse

Since the day was still young, and we knew there was a Fish Festival going on in Vermilion, we headed that direction and since there is a lighthouse in Vermilion, we stopped to see that along the way.

The lighthouse at Vermilion sits at the edge of downtown, adjacent to the Inland Seas Maritime Museum. The structure is a replica of the original, wooden lighthouse, built in 1847. This is one of the newer lighthouses built in Ohio. It is a replica of the original Vermilion lighthouse that was built in 1877. The original lighthouse was at the end of a pier out in the water. In 1929, it was on the verge of collapsing so The Lighthouse Board took it down. One of the local townsfolk was so upset that he raised money to have a replica rebuilt.
