Downtown Elyria and an Attempt to View West Falls

After we visited the East Falls, we headed up the path of the River Walk toward downtown Elyria.  They have a wonderful little park in the heart of their downtown that is surrounded by businesses, shops, churches, the historic Courthouse and the new much larger Lorain County Justice Center.

The bricks have the names and birth and death dates of local fallen war veterans.

There are four churches  on the town square and a Catholic Church resides about a block away.

We plan to go to church at this church on a Sunday morning sometime, however, their services are pretty early so we'll have figure out when we want to get up early enough to drive over here.  We really would like to see the sanctuary of this church.  It looks like it will be gorgeous inside and it is one of our UCC churches.

We tried to get inside the Old Courthouse to see it, but unless you have business inside, you are allowed in.  Rats!

We plan on visiting this Methodist Church for a Sunday Service also.  They make it a lot easier since their service is at 10:45 AM.

After we visited the downtown we headed over to Cascade Park, the entrance off of West River Road North. We heard that you could walk to the West Falls of the Elyria River here. We couldn't find any signs telling us how to hike to the falls so we first stopped by the river and had a picnic lunch.
When we finished lunch, we headed over to another parking lot in the park and I asked some women how you get to the falls.  They said to go back to the parking lot we just left and we could walk to them in that direction but it would be quite a hike.  I asked her why the road was closed that went that  direction and she told us that the road had washed out into the river.  So, we gave up on the idea of hiking to the West Falls today.  We'll see if we can find another way to see them and try again!
