Our last stop for the day was the Vicksburg National Military Park.
We stopped first at the Visitor Center which had a lot of exhibits and information about the Civil War.
When we were in the Visitor Center, we picked up a listening device that would tell us the story of the Battle of Vicksburg and other pertinent information about the Civil War. When you came to a sign like the one below, you get to listen to the story of what occurred at that location and/or the significance of the monument that was in front of you. It was very interesting and enjoyable because you could go along at your pace in the comfort of an air conditioned van.
And, of course, there were miles of gravestones for all that died at this battle. The awful cost of war is very apparent at Vicksburg.
