We went out today checking out more of the local waterfalls. Our first stop was to Robert H. Treman State Park which is near Ithaca, NY.
We first took a short walk to the swimming area at the park. It is really kind of neat because there is a waterfall at one end of the swimming area and at the other end there is a bridge that blocks the water from leaving the pool area. Of course, this time of year there was no swimming going on.

waterfall on the other side of the bridge |

The bridge is where the water is blocked off underneath to provide a large swimming area |
|
How cool is that!! |
This is a picture of how it looks during the swimming season!
After we left the pool area we decided to take the South Rim Trail and see the waterfalls along the way.
|
Lee in the Gorge |
We followed the trail into a rugged gorge called Enfield Glen that is really spectacular. We wound around these trails past many watersfalls heading to the largest falls, Lucifer Falls.
|
Just Gorgeous! |
|
Lots of waterfalls of all sizes along the trail! |
|
Now we are near Lucifer Falls |
|
Lots of Layering in the Rocks |
|
Lucifer Falls |
Lucifer Falls has a 115-foot drop and from the falls you can see a mile-and-a-half down the wooded gorge as it
winds its way to the lower park. What a wonderful hike. We were surrounded by beauty!

When we finished walking the gorge trail, we had a picnic and then drove over to another area of the park.

Falls behind the Grist Mill |
You don't have much of a hike to see these falls which are behind the Grist Mill. Waterfalls are everywhere in the Finger Lakes!
If you are in this area, you don't want to miss RH Tremen State Park. We had a wonderful day exploring!
When we left that area we still had daylight so we decided to check out Buttermilk Falls State Park, also near Ithaca, NY and the falls there. There was no hiking necessary to see Buttermilk Falls as they are right next to the parking area and the first thing you see as you enter the park.
There wasn't a lot of water coming over Buttermilk Falls
so there were no foaming cascade
of water today. The falls are called Buttermilk because when there is a
lot of water, the color of the rock makes the foaming cascade look like
buttermilk!
