This morning we headed to Mushroom Rock State Park which is one of the 8 geological wonders of Kansas (see http://www.kansassampler.org/8wonders/. The mushroom rocks are rare Dakota sandstone concretions. According to the website "They are up to 27 feet in diameter, deposited 100 million years ago and since exposed by the relentless forces of erosion." We can just relate that they are just natural works of art!
The park is out in the sticks so to speak and you have to travel on gravel for quite awhile to get here. It was worth it though! I'm glad they decided to build a road to get to it.

As we were hiking to the mushroom rocks, we went through a field that was just full of butterlies. Lee stopped to take pictures of some of them. It was fun just watching all of the fluttering around everywhere around us!

When we were done exploring the area, we sat and had a picnic at the one picnic table that was in the small park. So far, it has been a great day!
