Fireworks Celebrating 4th of July at McAllen Municipal Park

We decided to check out the fireworks in McAllen this year. There are also fireworks at South Padre but we've seen those before so it is time to try another one.

McAllen had their celebration in the McAllen Municipal Park. They had a band that played at their pavilion until the fireworks and there were several food trucks to get food and drinks.

There were families and kids everywhere and they were playing lots of games with their families. It was nice to see. The kids didn't have too many sparker type things until some women showed up with a cart full of battery operated toys and then the park was lit up all over.

We both took pictures which is never a good idea with us because I had sooooo many to go through to pick out the best ones.

Tomorrow we have a dinner/dance in the Hall. It is almost getting like Covid never existed but with the new strains out, you never know. We have to enjoy while we can!

Sale of RV and Truck

Today, we sold our 2004 Doubletree Mobile Suite TK3 and our 2007 Freightliner M2 to an individual who lives in Brownsville. The units were both in storage forever because of Covid, however, they were both getting on in years and in mileage and we had talked about selling them.

Our UPS driver just stopped and asked us if we had thought about selling them. He asked someone in the park who the Freightliner belonged to and, fortunately, they knew.

It took a couple of weeks and negotiations but we sold them both. We had a lot of wonderful years full-timing with both of them.  Now, of course, we have basically moved to Texas and live in a double-wide trailer that we have been remodeling for ages. We don't really want to full-time again but, after staying here through the summer (again due to Covid), we will want to travel again at some point.

COVID UPDATE and OPENING UP SOUTHERN COMFORT:

Today we received the news that at Southern Comfort we can now use our Hall again for get togethers, playing cards, etc. Those people that have had their Covid immunizations don't have to wear masks. Those people that haven't are supposed to be masked up but since we don't really know who has who has not, it is a good thing that the shots will keep the rest of us from getting sick.

The ladies played Bingo in the Hall using Mexican Bingo cards. So there was a picture of the object and the Mexican name of the object on the square. The first game was crazy for me trying to figure out if I had the item but it got better as we went on. I won two small pots and then I won the whopper at the end where I ended up with a little over $8! We had a good time and it was good to see and talk to people again.

PRESENT NEWS ON COVID

Covid has been really hard on those of us that tried to be careful. But we watched the news and it really was pretty bad here in the Valley.

In Texas until today there were 2.98 million cases of Covid and 52,666 deaths.  In the United States, we have had 33.5 million cases of Covid and 601,000 deaths. So, Texas had more than its fair share of deaths. Texas had the highest number of deaths in the country.

Now the news is that there are new strains of Covid in other countries and a few cases across the USA. The new strains make it easier to get Covid and it is starting to attack children. We are praying that we can keep getting people vaccinated and stop the spread of this disease.

Birding at Our House LOL

We've  had a few of the buff-bellied hummingbirds taking advantage of our feeders these past few weeks. I finally tried to get a few pictures of them. They weren't very cooperative!

Guess we have another visitor today.

Riverside Club in Mission, Texas

We drove over to McAllen shopping for a bed and bought a Sleep Number bed to be delivered next week. We had a Sleep Number bed many years ago and loved it. So, we'll be happy to see it when it arrives.

To celebrate our new purchase, we drove over to Mission to get the scrumptious tenderloins that the Riverside Club serves. It was sure a different atmosphere after the season is over. There wasn't anyone in the restaurant but us, however, we didn't get there until about 3 PM.

They have made a lot of improvements and so I took a few pictures of those. It used to be that you came here either for the tenderloins or the boat trip and tour on the Rio Grande River. Now there is also a huge ballroom that is busy all season.

This is the new ballroom
