South Padre Island Kite Festival 2020

We love the kite festivals especially when it is arm and sunny! We've enjoyed them on the Oregon and Washington coasts and we rarely miss one here at South Padre!

Check out this youtube of the MegaFly from 2020:

We first became acquainted with team quad-line kite flying at the Lincoln Fall Kite Festival in 2007. The lone team flying quad line kites at that event was called Team IQUAD and consisted of up to 13 different members during its history (there were four at the Lincoln festival). The team retired in 2013 and its members went off to fly solo and with other teams. Three of those members were invited flyers at this festival, John Barresi (now with Team Kitelife), Steve De Rooy and Spence Watson. The link below is the Team IQUAD in action at the 2010 SPI Kite Festival.

Kite Festival at South Padre - The Single Line Kites (Non Performance)

It was a beautiful day for the Kite Festival today and, as usual, we took way too many pictures. This page is just dedicated to the single line kites that just blow in the wind. Today there was enough wind to keep them flying.

The next posting will have all the kite routines done by expert kite flyers who come from all over the USA and Canada.
