Rogue Gorge

We were told by our campground hosts to visit Rogue Gorge and it was well worth the trip. It is on Highway 62 near Unionville.   We decided we would do that and then head up to Crater Lake.

The Beginning of the Chasm

Rogue Gorge forms a chasm 500 feet long.  The Gorge narrows to 25 feet from the platform's edge to the opposite wall and it drops 4 feet to the river.  410,000 gallons of water flows beneath your feet at the platform.  The average temperature of the water is 44 degrees so native fish do not grow to a very large size.

This wall has two lava tubes, one that is partially collapsed.

The Natural Bridge on the Rogue River is a geologic phenomenon, It formed as part of the tectonic forces that gave form to the State of Oregon about 100 million years ago.
