Gardens at the Edith Wharton Home

While we enjoyed touring the house, we loved walking through the gardens.   Our first stop after the formal tour of the house was to have some lunch.  Luckily, the group that oversees the property has a station on the back porch where we could by a sandwich or a salad.  To get to the porch, you just walk through the dining room or any other room on that end of the house.

These young ladies were enjoy a light lunch too.

This is the view we had from our table.

After a lunch of chicken salad and fresh lemonade, we headed down the grand staircase at the back of the home to the formal gardens.

This small fountain is in the center of two staircases
coming down from the porch.

Then we followed this sidewalk down to the garden level.

Looking back at the house from the gardens.  See what I mean - it is much more elegant than the front of the home.

There are gardens on either side of the home.

This row of trees extends between both gardens

This is a more formal garden

The rest of the pictures are self-explanatory.  It was just a gorgeous place to spend the afternoon!
