We arrived at our site at Falcon Lake last night at about 8:30 PM. It was dark when we arrived. It took us a lot longer to finish packing up the camper than we thought it would.
There was an unmanned check-in station that was lit pretty well when we first got into the park. However, it was not fun to find our way through this park at night. There are several areas with camping and the signing might be okay in the daylight but it wasn't easy to figure out where to go. It is just masses of trees. However, we finally found where we were supposed to be and we managed to get set up in the dark. There were some lights in the campground. We were also serenaded by the one camper in our vicinity who was enjoying loud Mariachi music on his outdoor speakers!
When we got up and around in the morning, our noisy neighbor was already gone. There were several big fifth wheels in the campground but they look to be all seasonal renters who park their units and boats here and come up when they want to fish. It has been soooo hot here lately - normally in the high 90's - so there wasn't much going on in the park.
Last night was our first night in the camper which has a murphy bed. The mattress was dreadful - hard as a rock. It also takes some effort to get in! This morning was beautiful, but our first priority today was to get a mattress topper and fatter pillows for the bed. We also thought of several things that would be helpful. Lee wanted a locking hitch pin and a spring clip for the brake away switch and I needed quite a few kitchen items that I didn't want to take from the kitchen in the house.
We didn't spend a lot of time hiking or anything because it has just been too bloody hot for that. We didn't have to leave our camper to see some wild life though.
Well, we spent three nights at Falcon State Park and we didn't have any problems with the trailer at all so that was terrific. And, the mattress topper and the new fatter pillows helped significantly with the bed. We both slept much better the second night.
We'll soon be on our way for a couple of months of the road!
